Acknowledge and resolve incidents from Slack

The Webalert Slack app posts each incident to the channel you pick, with real Acknowledge and Resolve buttons. Clicking one acts as you, stops the escalation, and updates the message in place, so everyone in the channel sees who’s on it.

Set it up in a few minutes

  1. 1

In Webalert, go to Notification Channels → New → Slack and click Add to Slack.

  2. 2

In Slack, pick the channel for alerts and click Allow. You’re taken back to Webalert with the channel connected.

  3. 3

Link the channel to monitors, or add it to an escalation policy as a level.

  4. 4

When an incident opens, click Acknowledge or Resolve in Slack. Your Slack email has to match a member of the Webalert account.

What the app does

  • Posts the incident with Acknowledge, Resolve and View incident buttons.
  • Acknowledging from Slack stops the escalation, as if you’d pressed 1 on a page.
  • Updates the message in place when anyone acknowledges or resolves, from Slack or anywhere else.
  • Disconnects cleanly if the app is removed from your workspace, and offers a one-click reconnect.

What the app can do in Slack

The app asks for four permissions, and uses each one only for this:

chat:write
Post incident alerts and update them when they’re acknowledged or resolved.
incoming-webhook
Let you pick the channel for alerts during install.
users:read
Look up who clicked a button, to record them as the person who acknowledged.
users:read.email
Match that person to a member of your Webalert account by email, so only your team can acknowledge.

The app doesn’t read messages or channel history. See the privacy policy for what’s stored and how to delete it, and support if you need a hand.

Questions

Which plans include the Slack app?
Every plan, including Free. Acknowledging from Slack stops on-call escalation, which comes with Starter and Business.
Who can click Acknowledge and Resolve?
Anyone in the channel whose Slack email matches a member of your Webalert account. Anyone else gets a private note, and nothing changes.
What happens if we remove the app?
Webalert drops the app’s token straight away and marks the channel as needing a reconnect. Reconnecting keeps its monitor links and escalation levels.
What data does the app use?
Your workspace and channel IDs and names, a bot token, and, when someone clicks a button, their Slack user ID and email. See the privacy policy.
