SSL expiry is a silent outage

Browsers do not “mostly work” on an expired leaf or a broken chain — they block the session. That looks identical to downtime in the website down checker, but the fix is a certificate, not a process restart.

Webalert reads expiry, issuer, and chain on every HTTPS uptime monitor. Alerts fire at 30 / 14 / 7 / 1 day so renewal is a calendar event, not a Sev-1. If you came from a suite that sold SSL as its own quota (StatusCake, some UptimeRobot types), that line item is already on the HTTPS check here.

• Hostname mismatch — cert issued for the apex while users hit www, or the reverse.
• Stapling / intermediate missing — some clients work, others fail. Chain validation catches it.
